Mindil Beach stretches two kilometres along Darwin's western shore, its white sand meeting the Timor Sea where the tide retreats up to half a kilometre twice daily. The camel tours began in the early 2000s, adapting Australia's outback heritage to a coastal setting. Sunset camel ride Darwin tours operate Thursday through Sunday during the April-to-October dry season, when humidity drops below 60 per cent and afternoon temperatures settle near 30 degrees Celsius. The 45-minute ride departs from the northern carpark, threading between pandanus palms and along the tideline as the sun descends.
